We have a lot of Downy Woodpeckers in our yard and they love the suet and peanuts we put out in the feeders. They are pretty friendly and aren't afraid of us when we come out into the yard.

I've only seen a Northern Flicker in our yard once and it was very difficult to get good pictures of it because they are so skiddish.

The first summer we were here, we noticed a pair of Mallard ducks eating bird seed dropped to the ground from the hanging feeder. The pair stayed until about July. The next year, two pair hung around until August. Each year since, more and more ducks have come into the yard, so Gary made a feeder for them. Once we had as many as 24 in the yard at one time and I believe that the original pair is still alive. Each duck seems to have it's own personality and some of the ducks have different plumage so it's easy to tell them apart. More info on Mallards can be found here.

We had an American Robin nest in the climbing hydrangea near our front porch one summer. Above are pictures of the baby robins in the nest and one of the fledglings minutes after leaving the nest for the first time. The robin on the right wasn't quite sure what to do with his wing.
