Chicken Wire Ornaments
Dress up some chicken wire with beads and wire.
You might think I'm a little crazy on this project, but honestly, it just came naturally to me. I had just finished making a chicken wire Christmas tree and had a large scrap of chicken wire left. While trying to figure out what to do with it, I noticed these shapes that the honeycombs naturally made and decided to try and cut some shapes out to see if they would look good as an ornament. Here's what I did to make these.
- Chicken wire
- Wire cutters
- Needle nose pliers
- Colored craft wire 20-gauge or smaller
Cut out the shape of your choice using the wire cutters. When cutting each wire, leave a couple of centimeters available at each cut so that the wire can be wrapped around itself to secure the shape. From there you can do whatever your heart desires to the chicken wire.
In these examples I have wrapped colored wire around the outside edges, cut the center wire to add a large glass bead and even strung large beads inside each honeycomb to make them look like my version of a country snowflake.
