White Sugar

Uses for White Sugar

  • Add a tablespoon of white sugar to a gallon of room temperature water before using it for cut flowers in a vase.
  • Make body and facial scrubs by adding a little olive oil, coconut oil, or jojoba oil to white or brown sugar.  Check online for dozens of scrub recipes.  Your skin will be very smooth.
  • Mix a handful of white sugar in garden soil when planting root vegetables to encourage good bacteria that fight harmful nematodes.
  • Rub hands with white sugar to remove grease, oil and dirt.
  • Kill cockroaches by mixing equal parts white sugar and baking powder.  Sprinkle where you have seen cockroaches.  They will eat it and die.

  • Have trouble getting a fire started? Sprinkle a little sugar on it.
  • Attract hummingbirds and Baltimore Orioles by mixing 1 part sugar with 4 parts boiling water.  Dissolve sugar, allow to cool to room temperature, than pour into the appropriate feeder.
  • Mouth burning from spicy food?  Sprinkle some sugar on your tongue.  This also helps relieve pain from a burned tongue.
  • Clean coffee and spice grinders by grinding 1/4 cup white sugar for a few minutes.
  • Add sugar cubes to an air tight container to keep homemade cakes without frosting fresh.
  • Prevent cheese from molding by placing a few sugar cubes in the package or container with the cheese.
